Underground train maintenance platform

Project scope

London underground were refurbishing many of its trains and carriages so needed a solution to provide its workers a safe static work area when working at height on the roofs. Abraham Associates Ltd worked with our customer who had the London underground contract, to design and develop a maintenance platform.  Two carriages at a time had to be accommodated so the platform had to be 35m long and cover both sides of the roof.Underground train maintenance platform closeup

Design

The main structure and walkway frames were designed in fabricated structural steel fastened either side of the train track to a concrete floor within a maintenance shed. All access stairs, landings and walkways had to be fully railed to meet safety regulations.

Analysis had to be performed on the structure to ensure safe performance in use for point and uniformly distributed loads specified by London underground.

Completion

The maintenance platform was successfully delivered to site, installed and commissioned.
